Mac client coming soon! For now, follow the manual setup instructions below.
Mac Setup Instructions
1
Install Wine Install one of these (choose one):
CrossOver (best, paid) — crossover.com
Homebrew Wine (free) — Run: brew install --cask --no-quarantine gcenx/wine/wine-crossover
Sikarugir (free) — GitHub releases
2
Download the Mac client Download the Mac package above (or the Windows client if Mac package is not yet available).
3
Run the installer Double-click install.command in the downloaded folder. It will set up the Wine environment and create MapleClassic.app in your Applications folder.
4
Launch MapleClassic Open MapleClassic from your Applications. First launch may take 30-60 seconds while Wine initializes.
Alternative: Parallels Desktop (easiest)

Parallels Desktop runs a full Windows VM on your Mac — the game works exactly like on a real PC. No Wine, no compatibility issues. This is the easiest option if you already have Parallels.

1
Install Parallels Desktop Download from parallels.com (paid, free trial available). Install Windows 11 ARM inside Parallels.
2
Download the Windows client Inside your Windows VM, download the regular Windows client from the link above.
3
Extract and play Extract the client to a folder and launch with LaunchMapleClassic.exe. The game runs natively without any additional configuration needed.

Also works with VMware Fusion (free for personal use) and UTM (free, open source).

Setup Instructions

Up and running in a few minutes. The installer defaults to C:\MapleClassic, which avoids Windows permission issues.

1
Download the installer Use one of the download links above. The file is MapleClassic_Setup_v2.1.exe.
2
Run the installer Open MapleClassic_Setup_v2.1.exe and install to the default C:\MapleClassic folder.
3
Allowlist if needed If Windows Defender or another antivirus flags the client, allowlist the C:\MapleClassic folder so required game files are not quarantined.
4
Register an account Create an account on this website if you have not already.
5
Launch the game Run LaunchMapleClassic.exe and log in with your account credentials. The launcher will automatically handle retries if the client does not start on the first attempt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. MapleStory private server clients are commonly flagged by antivirus software because they are not digitally signed and modify game files. This is a false positive. Add the game folder as an exception in your antivirus to prevent it from quarantining the files.

Try these steps in order:

  1. Run the launcher as Administrator (right-click, Run as administrator).
  2. Make sure your antivirus is not blocking or quarantining game files.
  3. Use the auto-retry launcher (LaunchMapleClassic.exe) included in the client folder.
  4. Extract the client outside of C:\Program Files (e.g. C:\MapleStory\).

Yes! The client uses native DirectX 8 and works on Windows 7, 10, and 11. No additional graphics wrappers or compatibility layers are needed. Just download, extract, and play.

The client launches in windowed mode by default. You can press Alt+Enter in-game to toggle fullscreen mode.

Make sure the server is online (check the status in the sidebar). If the server is online but you cannot connect, check your firewall settings and ensure ports 8484 and 7575 are not blocked. Restart the launcher and try again.

cosmic.ini is included with the client and should already be configured. It should not show an internal GameHost value; if you see one, you are using an old build and should reinstall the latest client from this page.

Yes! MapleClassic supports macOS via Wine. The game runs on both Intel Macs and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) through Rosetta 2. You need Wine installed (CrossOver for best compatibility, or free alternatives like Homebrew Wine). See the macOS section above for download and setup instructions.
